EVENTS SPRING 2008:

SIGNAL ROCK FARMS YEARLY OPEN BARN DAY was held on May 24, 2008 from 10am - 3pm.  The weather was very good - warm and lots of sunshine.

The winners of the contest to guess the weight of the orphan lamb with the dot and receive a free riding lessson were:  Brianne Murphy with a weight of 30.75 pounds, Allison Cyr with a weight of 30.75 pounds, and Samantha Bodo with a weight of 30.5 pounds.  The lamb weighed 30.75 pounds that morning.

The OPEN BARN DAY is free and open to the public.  It is our way of once a year inviting the public onto our farm to answer any questions and give children a chance to see farm animals up close and learn all about them.  Everyone gets to:

  • Tour the Farm
  • See the new born lambs lambing began this past year on April 15 - a week earlier than scheduled.  We had 195 healthy lambs born with about 20 that we pulled from their mothers due to being triplets and the mothers being older and not providing as much milk as the lambs needed.  The orphans are then bottle fed for 24 hours and then get onto a bucket with milk available 24 hours/7 days a week.
  • We had expected some Ewes to still be having their lambs during this years open barn day but actually all 90 moms decided to lamb within 3 weeks and get it over with.
  • Kevin Ford, gave a wonderful demonstration of Blade shearing our one year old ewes and the rams.  Blade Shearing is shearing the sheep with long blades similar to scissors rather than electric trimmers. The sheep are very relaxed for this and there is a little more wool left on the sheep.
  • For $2 a ride, many children lined up all day long for the Pony Rides on Sugar, a very sweet Quarter horse.
EVENTS 2007:

Signal Rock Farm hosted the Massachusetts Carriage and Driving Society Fall Trace Pace on Sunday September 23, 2007.

The weather was once again very cooperative providing a perfect fall day with bright sunshine in the mid 60s. The attendees had a great time driving along the edges of many of the farms fields and private dirt roads.
